Utah Hard Water

Eagle Mountain hard water · Water softeners · Mixed sources

Eagle Mountain doesn’t publish a hardness number. Your tap can tell you.

Eagle Mountain’s 2025 water quality report doesn’t list hardness, and the city has no current published figure. The city blends its own wells with surface water from Central Utah Water Conservancy District, so hardness can vary. A tap test is the honest way to size a softener here.

Eagle Mountain

Two kinds of water, one tap.

Eagle Mountain’s 2025 water quality report says the city serves both ground and surface water: five city wells plus surface water from Central Utah Water Conservancy District. Groundwater and surface water usually carry different mineral loads, so what comes out of your tap depends on the blend reaching your area. The city’s 2025 report doesn’t list hardness, and there’s no current city figure, so we don’t quote one. If you’re seeing spots or white crust, test at your tap, then size a softener to that result.

New build without a softener? Many newer homes have a softener loop roughed in near the water heater — it makes the install simpler.

Why Utah County water is this hard

Where we have a city report, we cite it. Where we don’t, we say so.

Provo runs 10–15 grains (2025 CCR). Orem swings 7–25 (2026 CCR). Lehi’s 2025 city water report doesn’t list hardness, so we don’t have a city number. Vendors cite around 11 grains (2024, not a city figure) — we test your tap before sizing anything. Saratoga Springs publishes a culinary-water average of 142 ppm / 8.3 gpg as CaCO₃ — moderately hard, milder than Provo or Orem. That’s the city’s own number; its 2025 water quality report doesn’t list hardness.

What we actually do

Softener and scale are the front door.

General plumbing rides behind that. We are not trying to be every plumber listing in Eagle Mountain. We are the hard-water page.

  • Water softener

Put it on before scale becomes a repair — especially in a new build.

  • Scale & hard water

White crust on fixtures, lines, and glass. A local installer pulls it out.

  • Water heater

Softener before the heater fails. Month 18 is when a new-build tank starts complaining.

  • General plumbing

Rides behind the softener work. Ask when you book your water check.

Eagle Mountain hard water questions

How hard is Eagle Mountain water?
Eagle Mountain’s 2025 water quality report doesn’t list hardness, and there’s no current city figure. The city blends five wells with surface water from Central Utah Water Conservancy District, so hardness can vary. Test your tap for a real number.
Why does my Eagle Mountain water seem different some weeks?
The system uses both groundwater and surface water. When the blend changes, so can the minerals. That’s another reason to size a softener to a tap test rather than a single quoted number.
Our new build didn’t come with a softener. What now?
Look near the water heater or main line for a softener loop — two pipes looping out and back, sometimes with a bypass valve. If it’s there, adding a softener is straightforward. See our softener-loop guide.
Should I trust hardness numbers I find online for Eagle Mountain?
Be careful with old figures. The city’s current report doesn’t list hardness, and older wholesale-supplier numbers don’t reflect today’s blend. A tap test is the reliable answer.
